SAP Helping Australians Back To Work
Answering the Morrison government's "call to action" for new policy ideas to help Australia out of the economic crisis, SAP has released a Public Policy Paper laying out new ways technology could be used, not just to help Australians quickly transition to working from home, but also in the transition to a "new normal" economy.
That new normal, said SAP Australia president and managing director Damien Bueno to the Australian Financial Review, should borrow techniques from the software world, where products are released early and then quickly "iterated" upon as flaws and insufficiencies appear.
We need to adopt a data-based, agile approach to policy development, similar to the way software is developed, if Australia is to navigate its way out of the coronavirus crisis.
Getting Australians back to work as quickly as possible in a dislocated market is the key to broader economic recovery. It is about moving people off income support and back to paid work – wherever that might occur to help them get back on top of loan and mortgage repayments and give them the confidence to spend on goods and services.
The challenge we face is a national one that will require all parts of the economy, community groups and governments to participate and share ideas and insights. As service provider to Australian businesses and governments for over 40 years, SAP’s Public Policy Paper is a contribution to this challenge.
